Healthcare System

 

I believe that the health system in our country is worrying, it has many shortcomings and leaves much to be desired. Only people who can afford the high costs can have access to quality health care. In Chile, a large percentage of people cannot pay for treatment or hospitalization without going into debt. The health care available to the average Chilean is poor, with long waiting times and treatments arriving late. Five years ago, my boyfriend became seriously ill and was admitted to a public hospital for a month, where after a long wait he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and had his spleen and part of his pancreas removed. During the operation, he developed a bacterium that kept him hospitalized for 2 more months in another private hospital and finally after a year they discovered that he never had pancreatic cancer and therefore should never have been operated on. He had a very rare chronic disease that was misdiagnosed.  His family is still paying the debts so far and they still have a lot to pay.
